Grimsby’s Urban Arts Festival 2015 – Denton Associates & Lyns Urban Art
September 19th 2015 in the centre of Grimsby was an amazing day!

Working with lead artists Lyns Powles we set out simple aims for the festival – to showcase urban arts from local and nationally recognised artists and produce high quality live art in one day that would inspire a talented, under supported, local urban arts scene and engage with local families and especially children and young people.

The initial aim was to have taster of urban art forms, the concept developed into representing the four elements of Hip Hop – Music, Graffiti, Dance and MCing.

Some of the amazing outcomes of the day included 13 artists producing live artwork completed in one day, children learning break dancing for the first time with a professional crew, young people (13-25yrs) attending with their families and children and families working together on creating urban crafts. Along side the festival DJ we had a selection artist performing scratch and rap.

The venue within the centre of the town is known for anti-social behaviour, the residential area that is adjacent to the centre is an area of high deprivation. This brought many challenges but the event was highly successful in reclaiming a space for everyone.
