our big picture presents the second of four exhibitions at Grimsby Minster
‘Memorial Structure’ by the artist Robert Koenig
14th September to 19th October 2016 9.30am to 2.30pm Tuesday to Saturday
Robert Koenig has been carving wooden artworks for over 35 years. Much of his work is influenced by his Polish family history and the county’s strong tradition of working with wood.
‘Memorial Structure’ is a major new piece of work and a specially constructed space containing artworks developed by Robert spanning subjects and techniques covered throughout his career including ‘The White Fisherman’ which has been specially commissioned for the exhibition at Grimsby.
The installation aims to create a space for contemplation, recollection and reminiscence – decorated inside using differing techniques Robert has mastered over his artistic career. Reliefs and sculptural carvings in his distinctive style tackle themes of migration, loss, discrimination, fear and collective responsibility.
